Hi, most of you know me as Chantal’s daughter, Chelsie. Part of her three C’s. Chantal, Chelsie and Crystal. The three amigos. We’ve been strong together for 28 and 34 wonderful years.
My mom, Chantal Grimard-Legg, is an amazing woman. She is loved by her mother, 3 brothers, 2 daughters, son-in-law, and 2 grandchildren. And her many, many friends.
Chantal was born in a small town in Quebec Canada, called Magog, on a crisp day in the month of December 1954. A town that has farms and small businesses, where everyone knows each other and you can’t go anywhere without finding someone you are related to.
Chantal was the only girl among her siblings with three brothers, Denis, Rene and Alain. Her extended family is very large. An impromptu reunion will bring together a hundred people. From both sides everyone is about family and it’s a big and beautiful one at that.
While her parents ran a successful local butcher, Chantal grew up with a love for ballet. She is a true artist and had an affinity for all things art. She graduated high school at the young age of 15 and chose to make a career in finance. The people she worked with were her friends and just like anyone in her family she helped them in anyway she could. This is something I learned from her and use every day. I strive to be as perfect as she was with her books!
After her college career, in Montreal, Chantal met Keith Legg and they decided to go on an adventure and make the move to Los Angeles for a career opportunity. A drastic move for a Grimard, the family had been in Magog for generations.

In Los Angeles, they had two daughters, me and Crystal. In 1992 we moved to Portland so we could go to a prestigious private school. A newly single mother, she sacrificed anything to make sure we had the best chance for a good life. That was what made her exceptional to the rest. She never complained. I have learned from that, being a mother of two. To this day I don’t know how she did it. It was astonishing.
My mom is one of the kindest people I have ever met. All she wanted was the best for everyone else and she LOVED more than anything to help people. That was her passion and she was great at it. Even when she wasn’t doing well, she dedicated her free time to helping others. Everywhere she went, she wanted people to do well. You don’t meet many people like that.
She is also one of the strongest people I have ever met. When she got sick, she did everything and I mean everything in her power to make sure that she survived. She did it so well and was so full of life, almost nothing was going to stop her. I hope that I am a kinder person for just knowing her.
My mom is our best friend and our confidant, someone who we could turn to with any problem. She was always right there. And she was an amazing grandmother. She is so loved by her 2 munchkins, John and Alice.
Though Chantal was battling cancer for 14 years, she continued to help anyone around her and met many lifelong friends along the way. She was surrounded by loved ones and was very peaceful in the end. The hardest thing she had to do was to leave her whole family behind, especially her dear mother who in turn, is so kind, and has a love for her so strong that their connection was intuitive. Jeannette would pick up her phone to call her daughter while Chantal would already be dialing her. They missed each other a few times but the connection was always there.
Chantal is survived by her mother Jeannette Grimard, Camille Beaulieu, Denis and Denise Grimard, Sylvain Grimard, Jérémy and Cedrik Grimard, Rene Grimard, Alain Grimard, her daughters Chelsie Dinkel and Crystal Legg and her grandchildren, John and Alice Dinkel. She will be greatly missed and remembered as a kind, beautiful and strong woman. We love you Chantal! And wish you the best on your next amazing adventure.
